Mens Health Q & A

What is men’s health?

Men’s health provides comprehensive medical care for people with male reproductive organs. Even though men and women experience many of the same health problems, men are less likely to take unusual symptoms seriously.  As a result, they tend to experience worse health outcomes.

By partnering with the team at Today’s Wellness and Primary Care, you can catch potentially serious health problems early on when they’re easiest to treat.

What services does men’s health provide?

At Today’s Wellness and Primary Care, the team offers a variety of men’s health services, including:

Physical exams

A physical exam checks in on your physical and neurological health. It involves your provider checking your vital signs; testing your reflexes; palpating your organs to assess their size and location; and examining your ears, eyes, nose, throat, and skin. If your provider discovers anything unusual, they can order additional testing.

Lab work

Lab work refers to blood tests, urinalysis, and cultures. These screening measures help the team diagnose and treat problems that aren’t visible, like high cholesterol, diabetes, and thyroid disease.

Immunizations

Immunizations, or vaccines, teach your immune system to identify viruses, bacteria, and other harmful invaders. By staying up to date on your immunizations, you can reduce the risk of potentially serious outcomes, like hospitalization or premature death.

Prostate exams

During a prostate exam, your Today’s Wellness and Primary Care provider inserts a gloved, lubricated finger into your rectum. Then, your provider feels your prostate gland for any unusual bumps or growths. If anything’s out of the ordinary, they might order additional testing, like a biopsy or colonoscopy.

Referrals to specialists

The team at Today’s Wellness and Primary Care treats most acute and chronic conditions. If you require more individualized care, your provider can refer you to a specialist in the area.

How often should I schedule a men’s health exam?

The team recommends you schedule a men’s health exam at least once a year. That’s especially true if you’re age 30 or older or if you’ve been diagnosed with a chronic health problem like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes.
